Bakey explores the ‘Backrooms’ on hypnotic new single

Rising bass music talent Bakey steps into the shadows with "Backrooms," a hypnotic and atmospheric cut that marks his latest release on Warehouse Project Records. It is the first single to drop ahead of the debut EP of the same name, marking an immersive dive into the underground.

Channelling the spectral echoes of Burial while staying true to his percussive groove, "Backrooms" pulses with eerie low-end intensity. Drenched with punchy synths and wrapped in warped vocal samples, the track unfolds like a fever dream inside a bass-heavy void.

Bakey describes the forthcoming EP as a return to raw, club-focused sounds. “I wanted to do some proper club tracks. The process of writing ‘Wouldn’t Believe’ felt more like writing a song, and I wanted to demonstrate the darker, more dubby and minimal side of my sound here.” That ethos runs through "Backrooms," a track that simmers with restrained menace while gripping with hypnotic pull, contrasting with the vibrancy of  "Wouldn't Believe," which released last year and launched Warehouse Project Records back in 2024. Bakey's driven to explore all corners of his sound, and this new release only emphasises his versatility.

Beyond the music, the Leeds-based DJ-producer is making major moves on the dance floor. His month-long residency at London’s Phonox will see him take over the club every Friday in April, curating a lineup that includes Champion, Reek0, Dismantle, Zed Bias, and Breaka. With this residency, he cements himself as a defining presence in UK bass, bridging the past and future of the scene into one exciting billing.

‘Backrooms’ is out now via Warehouse Project Records, buy/listen here. The full EP lands on April 4th, pre-order here.
